NEW YORK, July 28. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump said that he's not keen on extending the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), he told the Fox News TV channel.

"I don’t care. I mean I don’t really want to [extend it]. I’d rather be independent," Trump said when asked about potential prolongation of the trade agreement. "Here’s the thing. Mexico and Canada need us. We don’t need them. The deal is important for them. It’s not important for us," he added.

The countries signed the USMCA in 2018 at Trump’s initiative during his previous presidential term. He decided that a similar trade agreement, NAFTA, was not in the interest of the United States. The new agreement entered into force in 2020 and may be revised in 2026.
