Electronic Arts is set to close its previously announced $55 billion go-private deal next week, according to the video game publishing giant.
In a document filed with the SEC Thursday, the “Battlefield 6” and “The Sims” publisher disclosed: “As of July 30, 2026, all regulatory approvals required to complete the Merger have been obtained. Electronic Arts currently expects the Merger to close on or about the close of trading on August 4, 2026. Completion of the Merger remains subject to the satisfaction or waiver of the remaining customary closing conditions set forth in the Merger Agreement.”
Last September, publicly traded company EA announced it had entered into a private equity deal with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Jared Kushner’s Affinity Partners in an all-cash transaction valued at $55 billion.
Though the original projected close date for the deal was June 30 (the end of the first quarter of EA’s fiscal year 2027), it has been tied up in regulatory approvals over the past few months.
Upon completion, EA is expected to remain headquartered in Redwood City, California and continue to be led by Andrew Wilson as CEO.
EA’s been riding high since the impressive launch of “Battlefield 6” last October, with the title becoming the highest-selling game of 2025.
The company’s large catalog of game franchises also includes “Skate”, “EA Sports FC” (rebranded from “FIFA”), “Apex Legends,” “The Sims,” “EA Sports,” “Madden NFL,” “EA Sports College Football,” “Need for Speed,” “Dragon Age,” “Titanfall,” “Plants vs. Zombies” and “EA Sports F1,” among others.
