The Marlborough Hotel had been in business for over a century
A prominent Llandudno hotel that closed suddenly has now been put up for sale. The Marlborough Hotel on South Parade had been in business for over a century.
The 40 bedroom hotel was bought by Jean Murphy and her late husband John for £1.3m back in 2007.
But in January this year the owner announced the hotel was closing. They said the decision followed a long period of rising costs and an unprecedented number of cancellations that made it impossible for the hotel to continue operating.
In a statement to North Wales Live Jean Murphy said: “This has been an incredibly painful decision." Sign up for the North Wales Live newsletter sent twice daily to your inbox
She added: “This hotel has been part of my life for so long, and watching it come to an end is heartbreaking. What made this place special wasn’t the building — it was the people.”
The hotel has been closed since then. Now it has been placed on the market with Walker Singleton for £1m.
The agent said: "The property comprises a substantial 40 bedroom hotel to include a three bedroom owner's apartment along with parking.
"The accommodation briefly comprises a hotel reception, bar lounge, dining room, commercial kitchens, administrative office, 10 single en-suite bedrooms, 10 twin en-suite bedrooms, 13 double en-suite bedrooms, 6 triple en-suite bedrooms, 1 quadruple en-suite bedroom, toilets and various stores.
"The owner's apartment provides a living room, utility room, dining room, kitchen, lounge, 3 bedrooms, bathroom and shower room.
"Externally, there is surfaced parking to the rear of the property with space for 6 cars, in addition to which there is a bin store."
