Rockstar Games has shared new details about how the physical edition of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) will work, confirming that the box will include a digital download code instead of a game disc. The company has also outlined important region restrictions that PS5 users should be aware of before purchasing the game.

According to Rockstar, the GTA 6 download code must match the region of the player’s PlayStation Network (PSN) account. This means players should purchase the game from retailers in the same country where their PSN account is registered.
For example, users with an Indian PSN account should buy the physical edition from an Indian retailer to ensure the download code can be redeemed successfully.
Region Lock Applies Only To PS5The company clarified that these restrictions only affect PlayStation 5 because PlayStation Network accounts are region-based.
On the other hand, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S users will not face any region restrictions, as GTA 6 download codes on Xbox are not region-locked.
Rockstar also noted that some countries have additional regional regulations. In Japan, for example, GTA 6 download codes will expire 170 days after their issuance date, which begins on the game’s launch date of 19th November 2026.
Physical Edition Includes Digital DownloadCustomers purchasing the physical edition of GTA 6 will receive:
Rockstar also confirmed that the physical edition will only be available in the Standard Edition. Players who want the Ultimate Edition will need to purchase the upgrade separately through the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store after redeeming the game.
Preload Begins 12th November 2026The physical edition of GTA 6 will begin shipping and be available for retail pickup from 12th November 2026, one week before launch.
Players will be able to redeem their download code and preload the game starting 12th November 2026, allowing them to begin playing as soon as the game officially launches on 19th November 2026.
According to market research firm Newzoo, GTA 6 generated approximately $180 million (~₹1,725 crore in India) in digital pre-orders across six major markets during its first week, making it the strongest game pre-order launch on record.
