After drawing more than 300 people per screening, the 10^th edition of Film Noir au Canal will conclude with a screening of Sweet Smell of Success (1957), by American filmmaker Alexander Mackendrick. A cynical exploration of power, intimidation, deceit, and corruption, this cinema classic remains strikingly relevant. It will be presented this Sunday, August 16 at Square Saint-Patrick, in collaboration with Cult MTL.

In this film starring Burt Lancaster, Tony Curtis and Susan Harrison, a powerful Broadway columnist coerces an unscrupulous press agent into breaking up his sister’s romance with a jazz musician.

The festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a musical performance byKaren Myatt. They will be followed by a presentation by Justine Smith, programmer of the Underground section of the Fantasia International Film Festival and film critic for various media (Cult MTL, CBC, Roger Ebert, Hyperallergic, Little White Lies). At 8:15 p.m., Sweet Smell of Successwill be screened free of charge and outdoors, in its original English version with French subtitles. 

Free admission. In case of rain, the screening will be postponed to Monday, Aug. 17.
