Ludovic Marin/Pool via REUTERS/File Photo Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met US Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa and an accompanying military delegation on Friday for talks on the military track of negotiations with Israel and developments in southern Lebanon, according to the state-run National News Agency.Salam called for a halt to Israel's operations in southern Lebanon, the expansion of US-backed pilot zones and a clear timetable for Israel to withdraw from Lebanese territory. Turkish officials are expected to sign the charter in Saudi Arabia after Ankara participated in meetings in Riyadh last month on securing navigation through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Riyadh introduced the initiative after Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis declared a maritime blockade on Saudi Arabia on July 20 and stepped up attacks on Saudi-linked shipping and energy infrastructure. The coalition is expected to be headquartered in Riyadh under Saudi leadership. Ankara, Riyadh and Islamabad signed a separate defense pact on Aug. 7, further deepening security cooperation among the three countries.UAE accuses Iran of attacking ADNOC vessels Vessels near the Strait of Hormuz, as seen from Musandam, Oman, August 6, 2026. REUTERS/Stringer The United Arab Emirates accused Iran of attacking two vessels operated by state oil company ADNOC as they transited the Strait of Hormuz late on Thursday, the second incident involving an ADNOC-linked ship in less than a week. No injuries were reported. Tehran and Washington are trading increasingly contradictory claims over control of Hormuz. Iran’s newly appointed Basij chief, Hossein Taeb, said earlier this week that the strait was under Iranian “control and management,” contradicting President Donald Trump’s assertion that the United States has “total control” of the strategic waterway. SAF air defenses intercepted several drones over Omdurman, a city across the Nile from Khartoum, while witnesses reported explosions as at least 10 drones approached the capital from the west. On Wednesday, a broader RSF drone barrage targeted Khartoum and several SAF-held cities elsewhere in Sudan, including el-Obeid, where falling debris killed two people. The renewed pressure comes after RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo declared Khartoum his group’s next target despite recent battlefield gains by the SAF. Sudan’s civil war erupted in April 2023 between the SAF and the RSF after tensions over a planned transition to civilian rule and the integration of the paramilitary force into the state military.
