Your concluding remark is spot on. Ethiopian writers and their followers are averse to criticism, tend to not take responsibility but blame their inadequacy on language or race or the weather, and are quick to bunch up on any who contradict them as "enemy." Secondly, we have this sense of entitlement, that of reaching the pinnacle overnight without needing to pay the sacrifices to get there. Thirdly, we tend to take ourselves seriously, as in, We are special, we are Ethiopians (never been colonized, etc.) and yet we act ferenji! Yikes! Europeans are not interested in Ethiopians acting ferenji. What draws others in is authenticity or simple truth. In other words, language proficiency is good but not good enough where truth is obscured. Access to resources is important but not more important than authenticity. Allow to be critiqued and stop congratulating yourself.
