A Communist U.S. Senate candidate from Massachusetts is releasing a Socialist hip-hop album, Andrew Yang and CNN's Scott Jennings to debate in Boston this fall, and more endorsements for Rollins.
Of all the things Communism and Socialism are known for, the hip-hop music genre certainly doesn’t come to mind for most people.
Massachusetts U.S. Senate candidate Joe Tache is not “most people.”
Tache, a member of the communist Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) who is running as a third-party candidate in the November general election, has announced the upcoming release of his new “Socialist hip-hop album,” called “Time’s Up for the Billionaires.”
The album is due to be released on Thursday, while a music video for the title track is already available online. An album release party is expected to be held the same night at Artists For Humanity in South Boston.
“Born out of the campaign’s “Sounds of a Socialist Future” event in April, the album puts the Senate campaign in a tradition of freedom songs that includes artists from the civil rights era like Nina Simone and Sam Cooke to more contemporary artists like Public Enemy, dead prez, and Kendrick Lamar,” the Tache campaign said in a press release.
The album was executive produced by Paul Willis, engineered by Joi Beatz, and features over a dozen artists from across the Boston area, according to the Tache campaign.
“This album both denounces the status quo and the situation we find ourselves in, but also proposes an alternative – and that’s the alternative we’re fighting for in our socialist campaign and our socialist movement,” said Tache. “I’m very excited about it.”
“We’re bringing together so many talented local artists. to merge that talent, and the universal language that is music, with this movement that we’re building to transform our society, and to provide the people of Massachusetts with the lives we deserve,” he said.
Featured titles on the album include the title track “Time’s Up for the Billionaires,” “The Promise,” “In Our Lifetimes,” and “More Than Survive,” among others.
“Epstein Island, Wall Street pavements, billionaires profit off our devastation. Wave the flag, bow down to the nation. Lose your healthcare for a Trump vacation,” read some of the lyrics from the title track.
“Don’t want to grab one piece and start shooting, but it’s time to fight back, get your a** up in the streets and start moving,” read another lyric.
The PSL, formed in 2004 after the party split from the Workers World Party, describes itself as a “revolutionary socialist party in the Leninist tradition,” that believes “Capitalism must end for the planet to live,” according to its website.
