Warryn Campbell has spent nearly three decades working across gospel, R&B, hip-hop, and pop, producing and writing music for artists including Kanye West, Brandy, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson, Missy Elliott, Yolanda Adams, Musiq Soulchild, Mario, and Mary Mary.

Campbell has won five Grammy Awards and received 15 nominations as a producer and songwriter. Among his best-known credits are Mary Mary's "Shackles (Praise You)," Kanye West's "We Major," Brandy's "He Is," and his songwriting contribution to Kanye's "Jail." Warryn Stafford Campbell II was born on August 21, 1975, in Los Angeles, California. He was raised in a musical and religious family by his parents, Warryn Campbell Sr. and Sandra Campbell. His father was a pastor and musician, and Warryn began playing drums in church when he was still a small child.

By age 11, Campbell was playing organ for churches around Los Angeles. He subsequently learned bass, guitar, keyboards, and other instruments, becoming an accomplished multi-instrumentalist before finishing high school. He performed with gospel groups while developing an interest in producing records.

As a teenager, Campbell entered Los Angeles' professional recording scene and received early guidance from DJ Quik. He worked as a session musician during the era surrounding Quik's 1995 album "Safe + Sound" and began earning producer credits and royalties while still in his teens. Before focusing on My Block, Campbell spent time as vice president of A&R at Elektra Records. He has said he deliberately took the executive position because he wanted to learn what happened to a record after the creative process ended and understand how to operate his own label.

Religion has remained a major part of Campbell's life alongside music. He began feeling called toward ministry during the 2000s and was licensed to preach in 2009.

Warryn and Erica began holding a Bible study in North Hollywood in 2013. That gathering eventually developed into California Worship Center, which the couple launched in 2015. Campbell serves as the church's head pastor.

He later described the experience as one of the events that pushed him to stop resisting his calling to enter ministry.

Warryn married Erica Atkins on May 26, 2001, after the two became romantically involved while working together in music. They have three children: Krista, Warryn III, and Zaya.

The couple's marriage has appeared on reality television through "Mary Mary" and the 2018 TV One series "We're the Campbells," which focused on their family, careers, church, and marriage.

In May 2026, Warryn and Erica celebrated 25 years of marriage by renewing their vows at California Worship Center in front of hundreds of guests.

There is a coincidental wrinkle to the Campbell family tree. Erica's sister Tina married drummer Teddy Campbell. Warryn and Teddy are not related; Erica and Tina simply happened to marry two men who already shared the Campbell surname.

In February 2005, Warryn and Erica paid $1.1 million for a historic home in Los Angeles' Lafayette Square neighborhood. The roughly 4,300-square-foot residence has six bedrooms, four bathrooms, a swimming pool, and sits on nearly one-third of an acre.

The Campbells listed the property for $2.25 million in 2017 and subsequently raised the asking price to $2.5 million. A sale did not ultimately close, and public property records have continued to identify Warryn and Erica as the owners.

The property's value has risen substantially since their original purchase. Recent real-estate estimates have valued the home in the high-$2 million to low-$3 million range, making it one of the clearest publicly documented assets associated with Campbell's decades-long music and business career.
