US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told media on Tuesday (September 1) that the U.S. and China have more in common than differences on Iran. Bessent said the U.S. and China have had "quiet conversations" during a G20 meeting in Asheville, North Carolina. Also on Tuesday, the US launched a barrage of airstrikes on Iran, prompting Iranian retaliation in the most serious escalation in weeks in a conflict that has driven up global energy prices and weighed on President Donald Trump's popularity at home.
