61% of European game developers are concerned that generative AI will place them under pressure to work faster and produce more, but only 35% think that AI might cause them to lose their job or reduce demand for their role.
These findings are based on the report 'Talent Signals Reshaping the Games Industry' by Values Value founder and InGame Job co-founder Tanja Loktionova.
The report draws on data from the 10th Big Games Industry Employment Survey. A condensed preliminary report is available here, with the full report set to be published in November 2026.
Just over half of respondents are concerned that generative AI could reduce work quality, and 46% believe AI makes it harder to assess actual skills.
However, less than a third (29%) had ethical concerns about AI, while 12% reported no concerns.
The report found that AI has changed how 78% of respondents work. Of these, 33% experienced significant change and 45% some change. Only 22% reported no change.
The report also found that 35% of company founders have decided not to hire someone because AI tools could perform the work.
Meanwhile, 48% of founders said their company is currently operating at a loss, and 60% are intentionally keeping their teams small.
Last month, Gamescom Dev released its annual speaker survey results, which found that 83% of respondents expected generative AI to impact team structure or productivity.
Looking specifically at AI's impact on jobs, 36% believe it will change roles rather than reduce team sizes, while 33% expect smaller teams. 14% believe utilising AI will result in higher individual output, while 17% did not expect workforce reductions.
