Sarah Michelle Gellar just broke one of her parenting rules: she shared photos of her teens Charlotte, 17, and Rocky, 14, that clearly shows their faces.

The “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” star has been super private about her kids, who she shares with husband Freddie Prinze, Jr., on social media, outside of occasional photos and videos that didn’t reveal their faces, which makes her two posts on Sunday so special.

“Yesterday was my best friend’s birthday 🎂,” Gellar wrote on Instagram on September 20, along with a photo of her making a kissing face at her daughter. “@charlotteprinze I’m not sure how you are 17 already. You may have been the child that made me a mom, but now you are the person that brings out the best in me. (Not to mention my biggest champion) Thank you… for being you.”

A few hours later, Gellar posted two pictures of Rocky, one of her and him and another of him in a race kart. “And then, there were two. Three years and one day later @rockyprinze came racing into our lives,” she wrote on Instagram. “I should have known from your speedy delivery, the excitement you would bring. You have no idea how lucky I feel to watch you chase your dream. You inspire not just me, but everyone around you. Happy Birthday Rocky.”

She didn’t share why she decided to finally post their faces publicly, but she did tag their public Instagram accounts, so maybe it’s because they are old enough to decide for themselves to show up online. Either way, we finally get to see what parent they look like — and both teens fully take after their dad!

“she looks exactly like her dad 😭,” one person commented about Charlotte. Another said, “Finally getting to see Charlotte and Rocky’s beautiful faces! Charlotte looks just like her dad. Happy birthday, sweet girl! ❤️”

Another wrote, “First time seeing Rocky! What a handsome young man like his Dad! Happy birthday Rocky 🎂🎉!”

In a May 2025 interview with SheKnows, the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” star opened up about parenting in the digital age. “It’s the wild, wild west,” she said. “You know, there’s no road map. The kids that came before weren’t living in this digital age. Something worked, something didn’t work, and really to stay flexible.”

For now, her approach to kids and social media is to stay open about it. “It’s walking a fine line because you don’t want them to become completely reliant on it, but at the same time, you also want them to understand,” Gellar explained. “And if you make something taboo, then all they’re gonna do is sneak it. So it’s really just about opening conversations. And it goes right back to ask to be sure.”
