The naked dress is the red carpet trend that keeps on giving.

Phoebe Bridgers was bold enough to try her hand at the daring trend with a revealing sheer gown at the 2026 Venice Film Festival. The musician made her acting debut in Primetime, which premiered at Venice to a seven-minute standing ovation and, per Vogue, chants of, “Phoebe! Phoebe!” However, Bridgers follows a long line of stylish women who have dared to bare on the red carpet.

The naked dress, which Elle Australia defines as a look in which  “a combination of elements that suggest the [female] form through fabric, sheerness or tightness,” has been appearing on red carpets for the better part of a decade and celebrities are constantly taking it to new heights.

In 2025, Kanye West’s wife Bianca Censori donned a totally sheer dress at the 2025 Grammys, but did you know that Rose McGowan had a similar moment at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards? Yes, the naked dress is a piece of fashion history so we must celebrate the women who’ve tried it out.
