Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) will launch it s Tamil general entertainment channel, Sony Vizha, on October 19 at 8pm. The launch would mark the company's entry into Tamil entertainment. The channel aims to celebrate Tamil Nadu's contemporary culture, tradition and aspirations by shocasing programs rooted in local identity. Sony Vizha will launch two flagship properties -- Celebrity MasterChef Tamil and Tamil Idol -- adapting international entertainment formats for Tamil viewers.
Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) will launch its Tamil general entertainment channel, Sony Vizha, on October 19 at 8 pm, marking its entry into Tamil entertainment with global formats and marquee talent.
Built around the brand promise “Ithu Namma Vibe”, the channel aims to celebrate Tamil Nadu’s contemporary culture, traditions, aspirations and everyday experiences through entertainment rooted in local identity.
Sony Vizha will launch with two flagship properties—Celebrity MasterChef Tamil, featuring Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Tamil Idol, featuring A.R. Rahman. The shows will adapt internationally popular entertainment formats for Tamil audiences.

The channel’s brand positioning is centred on the distinct cultural experiences of Tamil Nadu, including food, music, celebrations and everyday interactions. Its brand film presents these experiences through the theme of Vizha, the Tamil word for celebration.
“Sony Vizha has been created with a simple ambition — to celebrate Tamil Nadu as it is today: confident, contemporary, rooted in its culture and constantly evolving,” said Rajaraman Sundaram, Chief Content Officer—South Regional, Sony Pictures Networks India.

He said the channel aims to offer entertainment that feels fresh, relevant and familiar to Tamil audiences, while bringing together global formats and established talent.
Sony Vizha’s programming will include original content, reality formats, movies and global entertainment curated for Tamil audiences across generations. SPNI said the channel would focus on premium and differentiated Tamil entertainment rooted in culture and designed for a new generation of viewers.
The launch expands SPNI’s regional general entertainment portfolio, which includes Sony Marathi and Sony AATH, its Bangla general entertainment channel.
Sony Vizha will go on air on October 19, 2026, at 8 pm.
