The Bank of America Chicago Marathon course has no shortage of spots for spectators to cheer from, and most of them are free, unless you want to stand in one particular spot.
It’s an exclusive viewing area along the race’s final stretch.
When the race kicks off Oct. 11, the East Side Viewing Area, on the east side of Columbus Drive in Grant Park, will be available only to spectators with special tickets. The area, which is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on race day, offers fans a vantage point to watch runners cross the finish line.
Spectators are not allowed to access the race’s start and finish areas in Grant Park on race day, so the ticketed spots will be the closest many can get.
Tickets to the viewing area are available for $30 each and can be purchased online.
Participants hoping to purchase tickets should do so through their participant account. Spectators can buy tickets on the marathon’s website. Children 8 years old or younger can access the zone for free with a ticketed adult.
Ticketed spectators can access the area at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and 11th Street. In order to access the viewing area, guests will be required to go through a security screening.
After presenting a ticket, they will receive a wristband, which allows them to enter and exit the area throughout the day.
With just days until the Chicago Marathon, spectators can find more information about the race on the marathon’s website.
For those who can’t make it into the area, a finish line camera will offer a live feed of finishers so family and friends can watch a loved one cross in real time.
