Pathfinder fans may need to pay a bit extra starting this fall. Paizo Inc has announced a Pathfinder price increase for several books in their catalog in response to rising production costs in a volatile market.

In a blog post, Paizo's Christian Moore explained both the reasons for the Pathfinder price increase and what products would be affected going forward. First, the announcements states up top that the price increase would affect a small number of books. Most of the publisher's catalog, including every single Adventure Path, will not be affected by this price increase.

As for which books will be getting the price increase, it is mostly the Pathfinder Core rulebooks. Starting October 1, the Pathfinder Player Core, GM Core, Monster Core, and Player Core 2 books, both hardcover and Sketch Edition, will be sold at an MSRP of $69.99, a ten-dollar increase from its original price.  

For the more economically-minded, the Pathfinder and Starfinder Pocket Editions will increase in price from $29.99 to $34.99. Alternatively, those who pay extra for Special Editions, the $20 premium will apply to these new prices, meaning you'll be paying north of $90 per book. 

Lastly, certain Lost Omens supplements and one Starfinder book will be getting an increase. The Rival Academies, Shining Kingdoms, Draconic Codex, and Starfinder Alien Core books will be going up $5, bumping their prices up to $49.99, $64.99, $69.99, and $69.99 respectively.

Notably, the price changes cited above only apply to the physical books. If you purchase PDFs, or play using Archive of Nethys, these prices will not affect you.

The reasons cited by Paizo for this Pathfinder price increase is direct: producing books has gotten more expensive. Between trade tariffs, shifting global trade rules, supply bottlenecks by ongoing geopolitical events, and the incremental increases in paper printing, freight, warehousing, and fulfillment, it just costs a lot more across the board to make and sell things. 

While Paizo held to a promise in 2023 to keep their core rulebooks books at a steady price during the initial printings of Pathfinder and Starfinder Second Edition, that time has now passed. If you want to pick up certain books before the price increase you have until September 30th to place your orders.
