UNITED NATIONS, September 26. /TASS/. NATO is seeking to extend destructive influence far beyond the geographic boundaries of its area of responsibility, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said during the General Debate of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

"Only the ending of dangerous rivalry among major global players can ensure lasting peace. This can be achieved solely through strict compliance with the UN Charter and the principle of equal and indivisible security. I remind you that it means rejecting the idea of ensuring the security of one state at the expense of infringing on the security of others and ruling out any country, group of countries or organization claiming dominance in the security sphere. This applies primarily to NATO, which is seeking to extend destructive influence far beyond the geographic boundaries of its area of responsibility, including Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia," he said.

Lavrov noted that the values of broad and equal cooperation underpin Russian President Vladimir Putin’s initiatives to create a Greater Eurasian Partnership and a security architecture across the Eurasian continent.
