The Friends of Garden Park School invites the public to a special Lecture and Open House from 1 to 4 p.m.Sept. 27 at the Historic Garden Park School, located at 5800 Garden Park Road.

The event will feature a lecture by Dr. Holger Petermann on the Jurassic dinosaurs of Garden Park, followed by an open house at the recently renovated historic school. Visitors are invited to take a step “back in time” and learn more about the school and the dinosaurs that once roamed the region.

Dr. Holger Petermann will present a lecture on the Jurassic dinosaurs of Garden Park from 1 to 2 p.m. Seating is limited. Guests interested in attending the lecture are asked to RSVP to Peggy at (719) 423-9481.

Built in 1895 of adobe bricks and closed in 1961, the Garden Park School has been recently renovated, inside and out. The open house offers the community an opportunity to explore this historic building and learn more about its place in local history.

The event is free, with limited parking available. Light refreshments will be served. The event will take place rain or shine.

The Friends of Garden Park School is a community organization dedicated to preserving the history of the Garden Park School and encouraging public appreciation of local heritage.

The Cañon City Geology Club will meet at 6 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Christ First Community Church (formerly Methodist) Fellowship Hall at the corner of Main and Ninth streets.

The club will have a silent auction to benefit our scholarship program, and the speaker will be Dr. Bob Carnein discussing Fire and Brimstone in the Gunnison Gold Belt.
