Rapper and singer Doja Cat, 30, recently took to social media to open up about her past struggles with cocaine and alcohol.
“I’m going to make a disclaimer that I don’t want to make. I have struggled with cocaine — could’ve been like eight years ago,” Doja, whose real name is Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, disclosed in a TikTok video posted on Monday, per Page Six.
“But I’m well past that. Thank God.”
The Say So singer also emphasized that “undiagnosed mental illness … paired with social media is an extreme issue that I think a lot of us don’t understand.”
“I think that it’s important that we take that into account when we see things on the internet … about ourselves that are negative,” she added.
Doja also posted a second video where she opened up about her past alcohol issues.
“The best example for my experience is using the internet as a means of validation to the negative thoughts in my head, which were then brought on by drinking alcohol,” she disclosed in the video.
“I’ve never had a real problem with drugs, except for weed, but alcohol is something that I definitely have had a problem with,” Doja continued. “I was never an alcoholic but I definitely had problems. So if I can teach anybody anything, I will tell you that it’s not good to pair these two things together.”

Doja was born to a Black South African father and a White American mother. Her father, Dumisani Dlamini, is a renowned actor and dancer, while her mother, Deborah Sawyer, is a graphic designer.
Doja also shared a third video where she responded to fans who alleged that she hates her Black heritage, Page Six reported.
“I think I hated myself since I was — could have been like 8 years old. And that was when I moved to my predominantly white neighborhood,” she said.
“I just felt like this TikTok was necessary and I need to get this s–t off of my chest. Today felt like the right day,” Doja concluded.
Doja talking about her personal issues came after she opened up about her borderline personality disorder (BPD) diagnosis in March.
“I’ve learned from a very young age to pretend that I like stuff, to pretend that I’m happy, to pretend that I don’t like stuff that I do, to appear like everything is okay,” she said in a video posted on TikTok at the time.
“I’ll get it done. And it caught up with me, and I think it always does for people. I’m now struggling with BPD.”
The Paint the Town Red rapper informed her fans that she has been handling her “agonizing condition” by undergoing therapy “for years now.”
