NEW YORK, September 29. /TASS/. US technology company Anthropic, which develops artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, plans to warn potential investors that its products pose a potential existential threat to humanity, Reuters reported, citing the company’s IPO prospectus.

According to the agency, the company plans to warn investors in its IPO that AI technologies could pose "catastrophic or existential risks to humanity." Reuters notes that this is unprecedented for a corporation that profits from such technologies. Anthropic’s IPO prospectus says, among other things, that its AI models have demonstrated "self-preserving behaviors," including attempts to "resist shutdown," to "conceal or manipulate information" and behavior "resembling blackmail." "Our development of highly advanced models, platforms, and applications and expansion of use cases could further increase the risk that our models cause harm," Reuters quoted the document as saying.

The agency notes that about 80 pages of the 261-page prospectus are dedicated to outlining potential risks.

On September 12, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published an article calling for a slowdown in the development of advanced AI models. He believes that coordinated efforts to slow work on advanced AI technologies could give companies an additional one or two years before models reach critical levels of development and help avoid serious miscalculations. SpaceX founder Elon Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman supported this assessment.
