MEDIA, Pa. — A fresh board of Student Government Association (SGA) officers has hit the ground running at Penn State Brandywine for the 2026-27 academic year with plans to implement new ideas and improve the student experience.

Tatiana Lewis, president; Tayvon Reid, vice president; Madison Ferguson, secretary; and Sara Hallahan, treasurer, make up the SGA leadership team. Their mission is to represent students by walking alongside them as peers, not superiors, while remaining present and efficient.

“We want to focus on hearing what the student body wants,” Lewis said. “We plan to be that middle person who brings the ideas and concerns we hear from students to administration and executes and solves them.”

Together, their goals are to improve commuter support, promote student engagement, give students a voice, and make SGA more visible on campus.

“Our campus consists of about 75% commuter and off-campus students, so we want them to have just as great a college experience as residential students by providing resources and events and hearing what they’d like to see on campus,” said Lewis.

To be able to solve students' concerns and advocate for their needs, their voices need to be heard. Through SGA, students have an opportunity to share their concerns and ideas and help shape decisions on campus.

“Every student should have the opportunity to have their voice heard, even if they have a different perspective or may not always feel comfortable speaking up,” said Hallahan. “Students should never be afraid to share their ideas, concerns or experiences or feel like their voice doesn’t matter.”

Many students may not realize the importance of having a student government association. SGA not only listens to students’ suggestions and works to act on them, but members also serve on various boards and help determine how funds for campus activities and initiatives will be allocated.

“Part of SGA’s purpose is to serve as a student-led campus resource for clubs and for our Student Initiated Fee (SIF) budget, which is directly funded by students, for students,” said Ferguson. “Additionally, having more students serve as committee members on our SIF committee gives them the opportunity to get a say in what campus programs their money funds each academic year.”

The SGA officers pride themselves on making sure students know who they are, what they do and how they can be a resource. Students are encouraged to ask questions, bring up concerns and share new ideas.

“When students know they are being listened to and that their input can create real change, they are more likely to feel connected to campus and like they are a part of the community,” said Hallahan. “This creates a stronger sense of belonging, encourages students to get involved and can ultimately lead to greater satisfaction and retention.”

The officers want to make SGA a more visible and approachable resource for students on campus. They encourage students to reach out with questions, concerns and ideas throughout the academic year.

“Whether you see us around campus, want to send us an email, set up a meeting or come to one of our meetings, we are here for you,” said Reid. “SGA works best when students are involved, so please never hesitate to reach out.”
