QUEEN’S PARK, ON – Today, Ontario Liberal Interim Leader John Fraser issued the following statement on this year’s EQAO results, which measure student achievement in reading, writing and math across Ontario’s publicly funded schools:

The Ford government is failing our children. This year’s EQAO has some alarming results.

Almost half of our students in Grade 6 and Grade 9 are not meeting the provincial math standard. Only 7 per cent of students who were not able to meet the provincial math standard in Grade 3 were able to meet the standard in Grade 6. 15 per cent of students in Grade 6, who met the standard in grade 3, fell behind.

The Ford government has, over the past 8 years, allowed our schools and our students to fall behind. Our class sizes are too big, the government has starved special education, and there is a mental health crisis in our schools that is not being addressed. Doug Ford has created chaos in our classrooms.

Instead of investing in our kids’ classrooms, the Ford government has spent its time fighting with teachers, fighting with school boards, and trying to run 5,000 schools across Ontario from an office at Queen’s Park.

The Ford Government has failed to meet the standard when it comes to our kids.
