Hip-Hop Techniques and Foundations with ESkilllz

This drop-in dance class series, curated by dance program alum Liam Lynch ’21 and taught on October 3, 10 & 31 by guest artist Elijah “ESkilllz” Carr, develops a diverse understanding of foundational techniques in street and club dance. With an emphasis on physical techniques, the class exposes dancers to a multitude of dance styles including hip-hop, house, and popping. Through the sessions, students will understand the basic techniques of street dance and will also be challenged to synthesize elements of groove, musicality, texture, footwork, and personal expression in their own individual improvisation. About ESkilllzElijah “Eskilllz” Carr is a Jersey native and experienced JERZ-style dance veteran. With a background in performance art, he is known for his expressive and energetic approach to the evolving style. Eskilllz specializes in musicality, JERZ footwork, and dynamic movement, bringing a strong sense of rhythm and creativity to both performance and instruction.His dance workshop, “JERZ Club,” offers an immersive introduction to Jersey Club culture, history, and movement. Participants will begin by exploring the origins, evolution, and cultural significance of Jersey Club, gaining a deeper understanding of the community and traditions that have shaped the style. From there, the session will transition into hands-on movement instruction, focusing on foundational grooves, footwork, musicality, and technique while encouraging self-expression and confidence.Follow Eskilllz on InstagramAdmissionClasses are free and open to all University students, alumni, faculty, and staff (age 18 and over).
