A new venture for me to get a site up and running

Дата публикации: 14-09-2026 18:14:38

Yesterday I obtained a used setup for a nice price (70 euro for a Pi3, Orange FA Prostick, Lightblue 1090Mhz filter and 4 meters ecoflex cable and an early FA antenna according to the seller).
I’d never seen that particular model of antenna so I was curious to do some comparison to the setups I have.
Another requirement was to get it up and running with Wi-Fi instead of a wired connection ( all others are connected wired).
Also I wanted to try it with the standard FA image instead of the usual package installation or using adsb.im as an image just to see how that would work out for me.
I first tried to get it working with the standard FA image and as long as I was using the wired connection that worked right out of the box.
Next step was to enable Wi-Fi since I wanted to place it in a location where there’s no wired Ethernet available.
So I edited the Piaware-config file in the bootsector to reflect the correct Wi-Fi settings and password (no special symbols in the password) and disabled the wired Ethernet connection to make sure it would use the Wifi. I booted it up again and it didn’t appear on the network anymore.
I’ve been troubleshooting it for a while with a monitor and keyboard attached (Activating the wlan0 connection via sudo nmtui) but that didn’t bring a solution. I also noted that adding a external Wifi dongle didn’t show in the available connections on the image networking options not even when reimaging the SD card and starting from scratch again.
So after an hour of trying I decided to to it on my usual way, creating the setup from scratch with an OS installation via the Raspberry Pi imager (OS Trixie) and adding the packages on top of it. I added Wifi network and password, added SSH and wrote the image to the card.
After the OS installation I first booted via ethernet and the system appeared on the network again. Via the networkmanager I selected the external Wi-Fi dongle and activated it. Removed the Ethernet cable and the Pi stayed online with the Wi-Fi.
Added the packages, registered it and placed it on the intended location.
Since then the system has been online via Wi-Fi as I intended it to be.
I followed all the steps on the installation page but I couldn’t get it working.

I’m wondering If there’s a step i missed along the road with the creation of the image or that the error is between the chair and the keyboard (I suspect so)?
