Raith Rovers gaffer Dougie Imrie has thanked Calum Adamson’s parent club Rangers for helping the crocked loanee with his continuing rehab from a calf injury which saw the 19-year-old midfielder miss Raith’s 2-0 home league loss to Livingston last weekend.
Adamson, on loan at Stark’s Park from the Ibrox giants until the end of the season, featured in six William Hill Championship fixtures for Rovers as they made a fine start to this season’s league campaign. But he recently became part of a large list of crocks which has slowly started to ease in recent days.
“Calum got a bang on his calf in training a couple of weeks before the Partick Thistle game,” Rovers boss Imrie, 43, told Raith TV.
"He managed to get through training, managed to get through the game.
"So who knows when he picked up the calf injury? It could have been in training or it could have been in the game against Partick when he’d to come off and then we had to get the scan in the next couple of days after that.
"Again, with Calum being so young and never having been injured, he wanted to keep playing on the team.
"We'll never know if he tore his calf in training or whether it was in the game against Thistle.
"So it’s good news on that front that it's not too serious.
"He's gone back to Rangers to get his rehabilitation as he's their player and we thank them for that, obviously.
"With the facilities they've got there, we hopefully can get him back quicker. So, in hindsight, we look to hopefully have Calum back by the end of the month.
"He just wants to get on the pitch and play football. That's what I love about him, nothing phases him.
"I think everybody can see how good a player he is. He's missed at the moment because of his energy and his awareness of what's round about him, his forward play.
"And he's got a nasty streak in him as well, which I love. He’s not afraid to put his foot in.
"But this gives other players an opportunity to come in and get game time. And then it's up to them to do enough to keep the jersey.”
Although Rovers’ recent injury woes meant that Imrie was only able to name three substitutes against Livingston – he also had no replacement goalkeeper on the bench due to Luke Armstrong’s international call-up for Wales under-21s – they will still be without Adamson, fellow midfielder Charlie Telfer (hamstring) and striker Anton Dowds (ankle) for the foreseeable future.
Telfer is expected to be back by early December and Dowds faces another four to five weeks out.
