MOSCOW, October 4. /TASS/. Responding to Kiev’s escalation is currently the only way for Russia to pursue its interests, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Rossiya-1 journalist Pavel Zarubin.

"Of course, we are indeed being drawn further into this spiral. For now, with no opportunity to discuss matters and reach agreements, this is the only way to pursue our interests," the Kremlin spokesman said.

Russia prefers to achieve peace through peaceful means, but until that becomes possible, it will "fight with full force," Peskov added. "What did [Russian President Vladimir] Putin say? We want peace, and we would prefer to achieve it through peaceful means. But until that becomes possible, we will fight, and we will fight with full force," he said.

He added that Russia’s warnings that it would use its entire arsenal of weapons in the event of a blockade of the Kaliningrad Region do not constitute a threat. "We said that this is a Russian region and that, in the event of any threat - and we have heard many statements from hotheads in Poland and other countries - Russia will use its entire available arsenal of weapons. This is not a threat at all," the Kremlin spokesman said.

At the same time, Vladimir Putin’s Munich speech, which many in the West mistakenly perceived as a threat, was in fact a warning bell. Peskov stressed that Russia’s warnings that it would use its entire arsenal of weapons in the event of a blockade of Kaliningrad did not constitute a threat. "This strongly reminds me, perhaps, of the situation with Putin’s Munich speech. It was also perceived as a threat. But it was not a threat; it was a warning bell," the Kremlin spokesman said.

Preparations for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s new Direct Line question-and-answer session are already underway, Peskov concluded. "By the way, this year we have already begun preparations for the Direct Line as well," the Kremlin spokesman said.
