COPYRIGHT AND TAKEDOWN REQUESTS. If you hold rights to any material in this archive and wish to discuss its removal, please contact Uncommon Ephemera directly before filing a takedown request with any platform. A takedown removes material immediately and without discussion, and may count as a strike against the Uncommon Ephemera account. Platforms respond to accumulated strikes by removing the account entirely, which would result in the permanent loss of thousands of pieces of historically significant preserved media that have nothing to do with the material in dispute. NOTES
While industrial robotics started in the 1950s, concurrent with pop culture's interest in humanoid automatons in television and movies, the former really reached critical mass in the 80s and the Library Film Center was there to capitalize. The filmstrip series Robotics from 1985 covers industrial robots in detail.
Operating Parameters of Robots dives into the various differences that matter when choosing or specifying an industrial robot. These various measurables, including accuracy, tooling at the end of the arm, repeatability, and performance limitations, must be specified correctly when implementing a robot to do a specific job. The filmstrip gives several real-world examples of robots performing various jobs, and how these parameters are important to doing the job correctly, safely, and with high accuracy.
The filmstrip also illustrates the importance of "teach pendants," a control surface an operator can use to manually control a robot's movements and record each move for stored program control. The filmstrip also explores some other programming processes, such as CAD systems that can simulate robot motions with a high degree of accuracy, allowing the robot to be programmed virtually using a model.
Operating Parameters of Robots is the third filmstrip in the series Robotics produced by the Library Filmstrip Center and distributed by Photocom in 1985. The catalog number is 5403.
