Apple’s latest Final Cut Camera 2.4 update adds a cutting-edge feature: It gives video creators even greater control over the iPhone 18 Pro’s new variable-aperture camera.

The new version also brings a ground-up redesign of the app. And with iOS 27, it gets pro monitoring tools like RGB Parade and clean SDI output.

What the Final Cut Camera 2.4 update brings

Final Cut Camera is Apple’s free video-recording app for iPhone and iPad, designed to give creators more control over how they shoot video than the standard Camera app. The app is designed to work with Apple’s video editing software Final Cut Pro. Apple announced Final Cut Camera version 2.4 in a press release Tuesday.

The redesign puts the shutter angle, ISO and white balance within easier reach for everyone. The revamp also adds customizable overlays, including false color and clipping indicators for checking exposure. Focus peaking gets better and now features a new sensitivity control.

A tally light also shows up when recording is underway, and a two-finger tap clears the viewfinder so creators can focus on the shot.

Variable aperture comes to video

Both iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max come with a new Fusion Main camera with variable aperture, and Final Cut Camera 2.4 lets users take advantage of it.

The app allows creators to dial in aperture settings precisely. They can also choose between shutter priority and aperture priority modes.

The update also unlocks Cinematic mode effects for regular video. This includes footage captured in ProRes and Apple Log. Creators can then adjust focus points and depth of field while editing in Final Cut Pro.

More pro tools come with iOS 27

With iOS 27, the app adds professional video scopes, clean SDI and genlock offset. The RGB Parade shows the red, green and blue color channels, so creators can check color balance and exposure. Histogram is also included.

Clean SDI now works using an HDMI-to-SDI converter. Apple pitches it as a way to send a clean signal for broadcast-quality streaming.

Genlock offset compensates for image artifacts from a recorded display. It also helps with latency differences between an iPhone and other genlocked cameras.

The vide-recording app already catered to professionals. Final Cut Camera 2.0 added ProRes RAW and genlock support for the iPhone 17 Pro last year. But Apple’s announcement doesn’t spell out which iPhone models support each new iOS 27 feature.

The Final Cut Camera 2.4 update is free and can be downloaded now from the App Store.
