The Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 platform has been officially unveiled by Qualcomm Technologies, marking a major evolution in how audio wearables handle on-device intelligence, cloud connectivity, and advanced acoustics. The announcement coincides with the launch of the Personal AI Health Alliance in partnership with the Global Health Connector, uniting tech and healthcare leaders to pioneer continuous, AI-driven wellness solutions.

“Our research tells us that up to 70% of users want advanced AI capabilities in their wearable devices,” said Ziad Asghar, senior vice president and general manager of XR, wearables, and personal AI at Qualcomm Technologies, in the Qualcomm press release. “With Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2, we’re heralding intelligent audio wearables that enable experiences such as real-time translation, contextual assistance, personalized hearing, and multimodal interactions that combine audio, vision, and AI.”

Built on the foundation of the Snapdragon Sound Technology Suite, the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 is purpose-built for the agentic age, transforming traditional hearables into proactive personal assistants. The platform features an upgraded Qualcomm eNPU delivering up to 128 GOPS of AI acceleration, achieving up to 2x greater on-device AI capability compared to the previous generation while handling simultaneous audio, sensing, and wellness workloads.
This processing leap is paired with dramatic efficiency gains. The Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 achieves up to 40% lower power consumption and features a physical SoC footprint that is up to 30% smaller than the Snapdragon S7 Gen 1 platform, giving manufacturers the space and thermal headroom to pack advanced sensors into compact designs.
Direct-to-Cloud Wi-Fi 6E ConnectivityA defining engineering advancement in the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 is the integration of micro-power Wi-Fi 6E. Operating across 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands with support for Dual Band Simultaneous connectivity, Wi-Fi 6E enables direct-to-cloud communication. This allows the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 to connect directly to cloud-based AI services, agents, and apps without requiring every data request to route through a paired smartphone.
Sound That Understands and Adapts
The Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 pairs its intelligence with top-tier acoustic engineering. Qualcomm aptX Lossless delivers bit-for-bit wireless music streaming, while Qualcomm XPAN extends connectivity beyond traditional Bluetooth range for seamless untethered listening.
To combat environmental noise, the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 introduces 5th Generation Qualcomm Adaptive ANC alongside AI-driven audio curation. Supported by advanced multi-microphone architectures and Qualcomm cVc voice technologies, the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 isolates speech and ambient sounds in real time for crystal-clear calls and reliable voice assistant interactions.
Multimodal and Camera-Enabled WearablesThe hardware versatility of the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 supports a diverse array of form factors, including traditional AI earbuds, premium over-ear headphones, open-ear audio gear, audio glasses, hearing devices, and emerging camera-equipped earbuds. During the Snapdragon Summit, audio brand Cleer previewed an early concept showcasing how the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 can combine audio, vision, and AI to perceive the world around the user.
The Personal AI Health Alliance
Expanding the real-world impact of these wearable technologies, Qualcomm and the Global Health Connector announced the launch of the Personal AI Health Alliance at PAIHealth.org. Founding members include Optum Health, Scripps Health, Merck KGaA (Darmstadt, Germany), and the Digital Medicine Society. The alliance aims to accelerate the commercialization of continuous, privacy-supporting health solutions that leverage on-device AI to provide actionable wellness insights between clinical visits.
Key SpecsQualcomm sells the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 as a component silicon platform to original equipment manufacturers, meaning direct consumer pricing is determined by individual hardware brands rather than Qualcomm. Reference designs for the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 are available now to help OEMs prototype and commercialize next-generation AI wearables.
Key HighlightsWith the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2, Qualcomm is fundamentally redefining what wireless hearables are capable of achieving. By merging an ultra-efficient eNPU with direct-to-cloud Wi-Fi 6E and advanced audio technologies, the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 shifts audio accessories from passive playback devices into proactive, intelligent companions. As hardware partners roll out camera-equipped earbuds and health-focused wearables backed by the Personal AI Health Alliance, the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 establishes a robust technological foundation for the agentic age.
