One of our favorite destinations.
I visited Ireland 15 years ago and fell completely in love. The countryside, the people, the coziness of this country…it’s unmatched to almost anywhere else I’ve visited. It felt like home. And while I do have strong Irish ancestry I had no idea that it would really feel like I was surrounded by family members. The resemblance was uncanny!
But regardless of heritage, I think everyone should visit Ireland. It’s the greenest place you’ll ever see (and this comes from a gal who lives in the Pacific Northwest, even.) When I think about travel right now—even though warm weather is so amazing and you’d think being in the gray Northwest it would be my top choice—I still just want to go back to Ireland. When I went before it was late fall and it was cold and rainy and not all that busy, which was nice, but I’m thinking this time around I’d like to visit in Spring. So I thought I’d round up some cute travel outfits to wear in Ireland if you’re headed there in March, April or May.
What To Wear In Ireland In Spring (Hint: It’s All About Layers)Think:
Ireland style is very relaxed overall—nothing too dressy required. And layers are everything.

Picture beautiful green rolling hills, cozy pubs and restaurants, craggy coastlines, foggy mornings…this is Ireland. I really need to start saving my pennies for another visit. Exploring Dublin, driving through the countryside to smaller towns, popping in for a pint and a bite along the way, staying in little B&B’s…it’s all as picturesque and relaxing as you’d imagine. I know Ireland has many layers, but if you like a cozy vacation I can’t imagine a better place to recommend. And I picked pieces here I’d actually pack and be excited to bop around in.
Spring Packing List for Ireland (Chic + Practical)Ireland weather isn’t all that different from what I experience most of the year here in Portland, Oregon. And let me tell you it’s all about layers. We feel weird leaving home without a jacket (or raincoat) and that’s a smart bet for Ireland in Spring, too. All of the clothing pieces here mix and match pretty well for that layering effect and the colors vibe together. That’s important. We’ve got a few shoe options depending on what you’re getting into that day and nothing too dressy. Wearing all black out to dinner will be fine and I found Dublin the only place I’d even need to worry about that at all.
1 | Free People Cori Waxed Cotton JacketA variety of layers and jackets is key for Ireland. This waxed cotton jacket is springy but will still keep the drizzle off, look on-trend and layer well with any of the other tops.
A good oversized button down is essential for travel IMO. Pair this with any of the pants and swap out the shoes for whatever activity you’re doing. If you prefer a striped, this one looks super cute.
Lole makes some of our favorite raincoats of all time and I am loving this springy jacket. The cut is so cool and it would be easy to pack.
Little gold hearts for how much you’re going to love Ireland.
The perfect hat for travel…and to keep the light rain off.
This is so cozy looking and a fabulous cut that isn’t too plain or fitted or boring. Layer under the cashmere sweater, over the button down or just on it’s own under a raincoat.
A black pant is never a bad idea when traveling and this subtle balloon shape is current and yet easy to wear.
A pretty olive trench coat for spring is so lovely and also the perfect type layer to have with you on this trip. The Everlane one above keeps selling out in Olive, so I’ve included two more gorgeous options here from Sézane and Banana Republic.
A tinted pair of sunnies always finishes off an outfit in my opinion and this lighter green would be perfect for a gray climate (ask me how I know.)
On trend and oh so easy to pack…the perfect little shoe for dinner or mini jaunts when traveling. Pair with any of the pieces for a more delicate look. If you aren’t worried about a dressier shoe at all, throwing in a sneaker ballet flat like this one would work great, too. Ireland is pretty casj.
Don’t leave home without one. And I love the little tag for making this one look extra special. I think mixing the olive, navy, black and taupe in this little packing capsule keeps it interesting and coordinated without being too matchy.
This just looks both cool and totally comfortable, for travel days, for lounging at the hotel or Airbnb or grabbing coffee in the morning. Need. Mix and match with the other pieces, too.
There’s nothing better than cashmere for layering in cool temps. Jenni Kayne makes the perfect classic oversized option. I know Quince has a decent option, too, in quite a few shades.
This looks like perfection in a t-shirt. And while I adore the perfect white tee, a darker shade is easier to travel with.
Black jeans are a must for me when packing and this is my newest favorite pair. The denim has stretch but holds its shape throughout the day. I love a straight leg for wearing with black Chelsea boots, too. It’s a classic combo and even though I’m very into wide leg baggy jeans right now, just an easier fit for lots of walking and traipsing through rainy climates.
These are the palest green and I love them! Not only do they go well with the shades in this packing list, but they’re a trending New Balance sneaker style for this year AND look super comfy. Update: just got them in and they’re even more beautiful in person! Also sold here.
I just think a Chelsea boot is always classic and one that is comfortable and well-made but also a little sleek/chic is so great for city travel. I AllSaints boots are incredible but Vagabond is also one of our favorite brands. Boot styles with a taller boot shaft are great to cover ankles under cropped jeans and pants and still look great with skirts or dresses.
This has been my go-to purse for travel for a long time. On a trip like this I would keep it minimally filled when out and about in more crowded areas and wear it crossbody. It’s so soft and sits next to your body and goes with everything. It also packs flat in a suitcase easily. I’ve taken mine to NYC a ton of times as well as on other trips. I carry it often at home, as well. It’s almost like an emotional support purse at this point lol. 100% worth the investment.
A good tote bag is my favorite for trips where I don’t need a backpack. If you’ll be doing more hiking that’s probably a better choice, but this is great for trains, airplane, shopping, etc. and this one has a sleeve on the back so it can slip onto your suitcase handle. If at all possible for your trip, try to bring a carry on size suitcase, especially if you’ll be flying any of the discount airlines. Their suitcase requirements are typically smaller than here in the US.
May the road rise up to meet you and the wind always at your back…enjoy your trip to one of my favorite spots!
