……Lanterns.I search my western weeb memories in vain to recall ANY version of ANY green lantern that is behaving like the Hal Jordan in the show Lanterns. A good green lantern screen adaptation is possible. A great one even. But I don’t feel anyone in Hollywood cares enough…. In the past I’ve found Hal Jordan remarkably difficult to fan cast. I mean that’s been a hobby of mine; casting superhero flicks ever since the Toby Spiderman flicks. Hal was always very hard to cast. Oddly I think it’s because he lacked sufficient character development prior to his stint as Parallax. His traits prior to that were- Cocky- Ladies man (apparently)- He somehow just HAD the respect of the superhero community. I don’t know why. Perhaps he exhibited epic feats of power that I am unaware of.- Fearlessness. Yet. The fearlessness seemed to be the fearlessness a fool has. He seemed to lack imagination or lack an inclination, or ability to predict doom. Which tracks psychologically with a cocky demeanor. But a wildly strange quality considering his weapon.- He had what I can only describe as bravado.Stewart was on my radar since Justice League in that I knew he existed, but similar to Jordan I was not made aware of his character development beyond him being black, and a green lantern. So it just made me dislike the entertainment industry for cashing a buck by exploiting someone’s skin color to attract new fans. THEN! I was rewatching Justice League Unlimited a few years ago, and found out he was apparently a marine, and won the medal of honor??? WHAT? The medal of honor? They dont just hand those out! That’s a big deal! LEAD WITH THAT! Marine soldier alone made him infinitely more interesting! A warrior lantern?! An intellectual crayon eater Lantern?! Whaaaaaaat?! And then MEDAL OF HONOR?! HOLY SHIT!…… Anyhoo I like John now. I never loved Hal. He wasn’t my green lantern. Loved Rayner though. Unpopular I know. There wasn’t even a second best option in my mind for nigh on two decades. But Jordan! He’s like a wall we have to get through to move on to the good characters!
......Lanterns.
I search my western weeb memories in vain to recall ANY version of ANY green lantern that is behaving like the Hal Jordan in the show Lanterns. A good green lantern screen adaptation is possible. A great one even. But I don't feel anyone in Hollywood cares enough.... In the past I've found Hal Jordan remarkably difficult to fan cast. I mean that's been a hobby of mine; casting superhero flicks ever since the Toby Spiderman flicks. Hal was always very hard to cast. Oddly I think it's because he lacked sufficient character development prior to his stint as Parallax.
His traits prior to that were
- Cocky
- Ladies man (apparently)
- He somehow just HAD the respect of the superhero community. I don't know why. Perhaps he exhibited epic feats of power that I am unaware of.
- Fearlessness. Yet. The fearlessness seemed to be the fearlessness a fool has. He seemed to lack imagination or lack an inclination, or ability to predict doom. Which tracks psychologically with a cocky demeanor. But a wildly strange quality considering his weapon.
- He had what I can only describe as bravado.
Stewart was on my radar since Justice League in that I knew he existed, but similar to Jordan I was not made aware of his character development beyond him being black, and a green lantern. So it just made me dislike the entertainment industry for cashing a buck by exploiting someone's skin color to attract new fans. THEN! That's a big deal! LEAD WITH THAT! Marine soldier alone made him infinitely more interesting! A warrior lantern?! An intellectual crayon eater Lantern?! Whaaaaaaat?! And then MEDAL OF HONOR?! HOLY SHIT!...... Anyhoo I like John now.

But Jordan! He's like a wall we have to get through to move on to the good characters!
