HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. - The 49th Maintenance Group conducted their annual MXG games competition, at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico, Sept. 25, 2026.
Once a year, the 49th MXG hosts various sports games that test Airmen on their strength, communication, and skills. Featured sports included events such as dodgeball, basketball, and flag football. Other events drew from military tasks, including chock raises and a munitions trailer pull.
The games are conducted to boost morale and promote healthy competition among squadrons.
“Marking the end of maintenance cycles, it gives Airmen a chance to unwind and build camaraderie while strengthening a competitive spirit,” said Christopher Calhoun, 49th MXG deputy director. “The games allow different squadrons to come together as a stronger maintenance group.”
The 49th Component Maintenance Squadron earned the overall win. The squadron operates across 14 facilities, each specializing in different aspects of F-16 Fighting Falcon component maintenance.
“The games allowed us to take a load off and socialize with our fellow Airmen,” said U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Kendrick Howell, 49th CMS jet engine intermediate maintenance journeyman. “ By learning different aspects of maintenance, it enabled us to have a better understanding of other Airmen in our group’s career, allowing us to work cohesively and efficiently.”
