I've never read the book. But I liked the Carrie movies and I'm curious about the TV show too.

Your first look at Carrie, a new series from Mike Flanagan, based on Stephen King’s iconic debut novel. Coming this fall to Prime Video.

"The only way was to build something new out of the ingredients. There’s really no purpose in trying to retread ground that’s been so beautifully walked before."
"We had an opportunity to tell a story about a modern teenage experience."

If you read the article in EW, each chapter will begin with different locations and times, showcasing characters with different powers. So it won't be an X-Men-style group. They will also include scenes from the police interrogations after the prom night in the book.
As the EW article states, Stephen King is the producer of this show and approves of the changes.

That’s good.
I even thought Friday the 13th could make it as a series…with Crystal Lake itself the antagonist…Ramsey Campbell style. I’d want Laird Barron writing some episodes.
John Langan has THE FISHERMAN after all.

I wonder if they'll be new characters or "cameos" from other King characters. There's a lot of Shine out there, after all.
I really hope one of them is Charlie McGee.
I wonder what Pennywise would think of Tak

The rights to King's other works have already been bought by other companies, so I don't think so.

It's a good thing there are reasons to look forward to this, because the trailer felt like the same old beats we've seen three or four times already. (For the most part.)
Still, it's just a teaser. A way to try and make sure that people know the show is coming.
I think adapting Carrie into a miniseries would be an absolutely depressing experience.
The main character is bullied for six episodes and gets revenge in the last 10 minutes of the final episode?

I was struck the last time I watched Brian De Palma’s brilliant 1976 film adaptation what a sad and shitty story it actually is. (“Shitty” meaning the narrative’s events, not its quality.) It’s not just horrific, but truly tragic in the most depressing fashion, if you take one step back from all the Grand Guignol ghoulishness to think about it as a human story.
But then, the same could be said for lots of horror.

I totally agree. That's why I can't imagine watching something barely bearable in a movie (not because of the quality, as you say, but because of what happens in it) for six episodes.
"Let's see what terrible things happen to our protagonist this time!"
It's Mike Flanagan. I'm in. He does great adaptations.
Another season of more bullying?!? Okay, I don't know what the adaptation will be like, but if it's even remotely faithful to the book, it'll be "The Merry Adventures of a Mass Murderer"!

He's good about staying true to the books.
I recently listened to an interview that he did with the guy that did Stephen King miniseries back in the 90s. Check out Post Mortem.
