Investigators want to speak to the drivers of three vehicles seen in a security video shortly before a woman was killed in a hit-and-run in Vaughan.
York Regional Police officers responded around 2 p.m. on Tuesday to reports of an unresponsive adult found at the side of the road on Pine Valley Dr., north of Major Mackenzie Dr., and located a woman who was deceased.
The investigation determined that the pedestrian, whose name has yet to be released, was actually run down two days earlier.
Police say the victim exited a bus and was walking north on Pine Valley Dr. from Major Mackenzie Dr. at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Cops say as she was walking, she was fatally struck by a northbound vehicle that fled the scene leaving her dying on the side of the road.
Speaking to reporters near the scene of the deadly hit-and-run on Wednesday, Const. Kevin Nebrija said the driver certainly would have known a person had been struck “based on the level of injuries she sustained at the time of impact.”
“It’s unknown if the victim was killed instantly or if she succumbed to her injuries a short time later,” he added.

She has been identified as a 60-year-old Richmond Hill resident who was on her way to work as an overnight caregiver.
Thanks to assistance from the public, investigators have received a significant amount of video footage of vehicles traveling along Pine Valley Dr. on that evening.
Footage released by investigators on Friday shows the woman walking north on Pine Valley Dr. moments before she was killed and three northbound vehicles can be seen passing by the security camera.
Investigators are hoping to speak with the drivers of those vehicles in order to obtain any information.
“The damage on the vehicle would be quite significant considering where the body was found,” Nebrija said Wednesday. “So, we’re also appealing to any body shops in the area who do come across vehicles that would have damage consistent with an impact of a pedestrian to please contact our investigators.”
Cops appealing for witnesses and videoInvestigators are also appealing to residents in the subdivisions north of the collision, from Ballantyne Rd. to Teston Rd., to check any dash cameras or home security video between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 4, as well as anyone with information that could be helpful, to come forward.
Cops are reminding the public that anyone who assists a suspect by concealing, repairing or altering a vehicle in an effort to avoid detection may be committing a criminal offence and could face charges.
This includes anyone who performs or arranges body work, paint work or mechanical repairs intended to conceal damage caused in this collision.
The driver is urged to seek legal advice and surrender to police.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Major Collision Investigation Unit at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7704, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
