Russia will immediately supply over 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to the US and other global markets, US President Donald Trump announced in a Truth Social post on Friday.

Another 500,000 are expected to be supplied in November, and another 1,000,000 “immediately thereafter,” according to Trump.

“Between our TOTAL CONTROL of the Strait of Hormuz, and this great announcement on Russian Energy, Diesel Prices for Americans and, indeed, the World, will be COMING DOWN, IN RECORD NUMBERS, AND FAST!” Trump wrote in the post.

The announcement came following a "highly successful" discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Putin's envoy praises US-Russian cooperation on diesel, energy after call with Trump

Russian President Vladimir Putin's envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, praised cooperation between Russia and the United States on diesel and energy in a post on X/Twitter on Friday, shortly after Putin spoke by phone with US President Donald Trump.

After Putin and Trump spoke, the US leader said Russia agreed to immediately supply over 300,000 metric tons of diesel fuel to the American and global market.

"Russia-US cooperation on diesel and energy will benefit the world," Dmitriev wrote on X.

Zelensky responded, calling the decision an 'investment in war'

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized an accord on Friday between the US and Russia allowing Moscow to provide the US with diesel as "an investment in a war that must be ended."

"Gifts to Putin will not bring peace or any benefit to the civilized world," Zelenskiy wrote on the X social media platform.

"Russia will 'repay' the diesel with further terror and perfidy. Allowing Russia to sell petroleum products is an investment in a war that must be ended, not prolonged. What is needed is real de-escalation with Russia on a reciprocal basis," Zelenskiy said.

UK responds to the US-Russia diesel deal

The United Kingdom remains committed to supporting Ukraine and will maintain pressure on Russia through sanctions, a government spokesperson said on Friday, after US President Donald Trump announced a deal for Russia to supply diesel to the US and the global market.

"The UK's position could not be clearer. We will continue working closely with international partners to ensure Ukraine has the military and financial support it needs to defend itself. We will also maintain pressure on Russia through the toughest sanctions regime ever imposed by the UK," the spokesperson said.
