Sadhguru explained why having too many relationships or too much casual connections ruins our peace. He thinks that complex physical connections can mess up inner peace and connects these marks to karma. However, these claims are based on spiritual beliefs instead of proven science, because there is no clear evidence showing that having multiple partners causes anxiety or depression.

Is it natural to love or be committed to someone yet be attracted to others? That is a question that has been bothering many generations, especially the youth today, when relationships have become more transient. In a viral video, eminent spiritual leader Sadhguru, founder of the Isha Foundation, shared the truth about casual relationships. He explained to some Gen Z women that the “body is a heap of memory.” He explained that our bodies can absorb memories from anything we touch with a certain amount of involvement or earnestness.

The body will physically “absorb” the memory. This phenomenon is known as "runanubandha". He then explained why the older generation of people steer clear of shaking hands and fold their hands to greet others. “They do not want to get into a runanubandha with you,” he explained. The idea is to keep the integrity of your body’s memory in such a way so that it doesn’t become vulnerable. Physical relationships are something where the body takes a huge amount of memory from other bodies. “If you make that memory very complex, it will become very difficult to be at ease after some time. There will be pleasure, but there will be no joy in your life.” He then explained that ease or peace goes away with excessive memory.

What is Runanubandha?

According to an article published on the website of the Isha Foundation, the body remembers all, and runanubandha is not just the physical memory we carry with us; it is also a certain aspect of karma.

Runanubandha: The Physical Memory Carried By The Body

Runanubandha is the idea that the body holds onto physical feelings and memories. According to this idea, these marks form through family connections and close relationships. Some believe that a woman's body holds stronger physical memories from sexual experiences, while a man's body holds more genetic memories. It also says that once a woman is 18 to 21 years old, her body usually shows fewer physical signs than a man's.

The reason given for this difference is related to how babies are made. According to this view, a woman's body should be able to carry a child that was made with a man who isn't related to her by blood. A lower amount of genetic memory is needed for a pregnancy to go on until the baby is born.

How Relationships Are Linked To Karmic Imprints

Runanubandha is also seen as part of karma, which refers to a specific buildup or arrangement of karmic energy. These feelings are thought to happen when people spend time together and share parts of their personal lives.

The explanation says that the body remembers past intimate experiences, and having many sexual partners over time might cause some mix-up in how the body keeps track of these memories. This claimed confusion is believed to affect different areas of life, even if someone can handle conflicting thoughts and feelings on purpose.

From this spiritual perspective, mental confusion can sometimes be dealt with, but confusion inside the body is seen as harder to fix. It says that increasing amounts of anxiety, insecurity, and depression, at least in part, come from these built-up physical experiences. The explanation also says that people might feel emotionally upset without knowing exactly why, because the body is thought to be confused.

These statements are based on spiritual beliefs instead of being proven by science. There is no solid scientific proof that having many sexual partners messes up the body's memory or directly leads to anxiety, insecurity, or depression.
