Patrons of an Edinburgh coffee shop got a surprise as none other than Ewan McGregor stopped by this week.

The Star Wars actor, 52, sported a beard and moustache as he popped into Cappuccino on Jeffrey Street.

The film star posed for a snap with a staff member which the cafe later shared on Instagram.

Alongside the post, they wrote: 'It was a pleasure making coffee for Ewan McGregor today'.

Ewan cut a casual figure in the photo as he sported a black jacket along with a dark green shirt, jeans and a cap.

The actor, who is from Perth, rose to fame for his role in Trainspotting (1996) and for his work in the Star Wars prequel trilogy (1999-2005).

Ewan has been shooting the upcoming TV series A Gentleman In Moscow in recent weeks.

The series tells the story of a Russian aristocrat who is spared from death and placed on house arrest while the Bolshevik Revolution plays out before him.

Ewan will play Alexander Rostov in the programme alongside his real-life wife Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who will take on the part of Anna Urbanova.

He also recently starred in the film You Sing Loud, I Sing Louder, his first project with his daughter Clara, 27.

You Sing Loud, I Sing Louder, is a film conceived by Clara, with Ewan explaining of his daughter's pitch to him: 'She tells me that she'd come up with an idea about writing about us.

'At first I was a bit nervous. I didn't know what that meant.'

The film focuses on a father-daughter road trip, with Ewan's character driving his daughter, played by Clara, to rehab.

While the drive is fictional, the premise of a father trying to help his daughter is based on Clara's own experience.
