The Japanese clothing store Uniqlo will open in Issaquah on Friday. The new store will be its sixth in the Seattle area.
Japanese apparel company Uniqlo will open a store at 10 a.m. Friday in the Issaquah Commons shopping center at 975 N.W. Gilman Blvd.
The store will be Uniqlo’s sixth in the Seattle area, with other stores located in downtown Seattle, Bellevue, Tukwila, Lynnwood and Tacoma.
The first 200 customers who make a purchase on Friday will receive a voucher for a free “breakfast treat,” according to the company’s website.
The first 200 customers who simply show up on Friday, Saturday and Sunday will receive a free Uniqlo knot bag filled with “exclusive goodies.”
Those who purchase more than $99 worth of goods from the store on that same weekend will receive an Issaquah-themed tote bag designed by Seattle-based artist Brandon Vosika.
Other Issaquah-themed apparel designed by Vosika will be available for purchase at the store.
Throughout the weekend, the store will host traditional Japanese taiko drum performances.
The company sells simple, casual pieces targeting young adults seeking wardrobe basics rather than the latest fashion trends. It boasts high-quality fabrics and simple, minimalist clothing at affordable prices.
Uniqlo’s parent company, Fast Retailing, was founded in Japan in 1949 as a textile manufacturer and has since become Japan’s largest apparel company. The company opened the first “Unique Clothing Warehouse” store in Hiroshima in 1984, which later became simply “Uniqlo.”
Uniqlo has grown to 84 stores nationwide since bringing the brand to the U.S. in 2005. But with around 2,400 stores across Asia and Europe, North America is still one of the company’s smallest markets.
Still, Uniqlo’s revenue growth has skyrocketed as it has continued to expand internationally. The company’s operations in South Korea, Southeast Asia, India, Australia, North America and Europe all reported double-digit revenue and profit growth, according to Fast Retailing’s latest quarterly earnings.
In January, the company said it would significantly deepen its U.S. retail footprint nationwide this year. Issaquah is the only Washington city publicly slated for a store anytime soon.
The company did not respond to questions about whether it plans to open more stores in Washington.
