The family of Mackayla "Kash" Paige is asking the public to remember her dreams and personality, not the videos circulating online after she was shot and killed in Oakland, California. Paige, 29, died early Sunday, Oct. 11, near 14th and Harrison streets in downtown Oakland.

Paige appeared on reality shows including Young & Reckless and Roommhates. Her cousin, Azima King, told NBC Bay Area that Paige had ambitions that reached well beyond television.

"People like to put out a negative narrative about her, but that's not who she is," King said.

The appeal comes as videos purportedly showing a confrontation involving Paige before her death spread on social media. Authorities have not confirmed what the footage shows. ABC7 News reported on Oct. 13 that it had not independently verified whether the video captured the fatal encounter.

Family Wants Kash Remembered for Her Dreams

King described Paige as lively and someone who wanted to be surrounded by positive energy. She said her cousin hoped to build a career in entertainment and become an actor.

"She wanted to be somebody. She wanted to make it, she had big plans and dreams," King told NBC Bay Area.

King said the clips and commentary online paint a narrow picture of Paige. She urged people to think about what Paige hoped to achieve and what she gave to others.

"Remember her for what she wanted to be, what she gave you all, the star that she was," King said. "Don't remember her for that video."

Paige had built an audience through reality television and social media. Her roles on Now That's TV productions, including Young & Reckless, Roommhates and Now That's Riot, brought her followers who kept up with her career. King's comments also pointed to the gap between a public persona shaped by entertainment and the person her relatives and friends knew.

Police Investigation Continues as Videos Circulate

Oakland police said officers responded to reports of a shooting at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday and found Paige with a gunshot wound. She was taken to a hospital, where she died.

Authorities arrested a woman from Richmond in connection with the shooting. Based on the latest reports, police have not identified her, announced charges or given a motive.

The investigation is ongoing, and the circulating footage should not be treated as proof of what happened before the shooting. Police have asked anyone with information to contact the Oakland Police Department's Homicide Section at 510-238-3821. A Life Beyond the Headlines

Relatives, friends, fans and Now That's TV have paid tribute to Paige. The network described her as a beloved member of its family. Readers can also see the earlier report on Paige's death for more background.

For King, the priority is making sure people remember her cousin for her ambitions and relationships, not only her television appearances. Her appeal shows how viral footage can narrow attention to a brief and often unverified moment.

As investigators work to establish what happened, Paige's family is asking the public not to let speculation about her final moments overshadow the life she hoped to build.
