Red Bank used a combination of fleet runners and a stout defense to race past Hixson, 49-14, on Friday night.

The Lions improve to 3-4, while the Wildcats still have a single win - a 33-9 defeat of Central last Friday.

To start the game, Hixson put together a seven-play drive that finally ended with a four and out on their glimmering new turf. Then Red Bank's 6'2" Marcus Jones reached above two Wildcat defenders for the first score of the night. The extra point was blocked, leaving the score at 6-0.

Then Red Bank's Dominic Gordon raced down the left side to put the visitors ahead 14-0, counting the two-point extra point play.

The Lions then picked off a Hixson pass, followed by Hixson pulling in an end zone interception. After Red Bank got the ball back, Shawn Carter caught a short pass that put the Lions up 21-0. That came after Red Bank got excellent field position on a short Hixson punt.

Hixson got on the board when Deuantre Baulding Jr. took the ball away from Marcus Jones and scampered into the end zone. That was followed by a perfect strike from quarterback Easton McEntyre to Baulding for the score that had Hixson only trailing by a touchdown at 21-14.

But Red Bank then scored on a fake hook and lateral with two seconds on the clock.

Red Bank opened the second half with a four-play, 47-yard scoring drive highlighted by the power running of Keenan Hambrick, a basketball player giving football a try.

Austin Jones got the final TD of the night for the Lions.
