Director Akira Kurosawa’s retelling of William Shakespeare’s "Macbeth" in feudal Japan.
Returning to their lord’s castle, samurai warriors Washizu (Toshirô Mifune) and Miki (Minoru Chiaki) are waylaid by a spirit who predicts their futures. When the first part of the spirit’s prophecy comes true, Washizu’s scheming wife, Asaji (Isuzu Yamada), presses him to speed up the rest of the spirit’s prophecy by murdering his lord and usurping his place. Not rated; 1 hour, 50 minutes. $13.75 ($8.50 for members).
Introduced by Kit Brooks, curator of Asian Art, Princeton University Art Museum. This film screening is inspired by the exhibition "Takeda Hideo’s Genpei: Defying Authority." The Museum will be open late, so check out the exhibition and then head to the screening.
