He was the former Captain and manager of England, and at 75 years of age, Kevin Keegan has died of cancer. He is one of the most loved and decorated players in the English game, playing for Scunthorpe, Liverpool, Hamburg, Southampton and Newcastle. After his playing career finished, he managed Newcastle, Fulham, England and Manchester City.

As a player, Keegan won a list of major honors with Liverpool, winning three league titles, a European Cup, two UEFA Cups and an FA Cup over six years. He then went on to Hamburg in Germany, where he lifted the Bundesliga and back-to-back Ballons d’Or. He is one of four other English players to have won the award.

On the international stage, Keegan scored 21 goals in 63 games for England and was the England manager between Feb 1999 and Oct 2000. Tributes have come in for Keegan from ex-players like Alan Shearer, who said:

My hero. My Manager. My friend. Sleep, easy boss.

There is no doubt Kevin Keegan left his mark on the English footballing world. But it was more than his goals, skills and performances; it was his spirit, kindness and humanity.
