Jessica Lange has criticised FX as being “too f***ing cheap” to provide American Horror Story stars with cars home after night shoots, saying the cast had to drive themselves back at “like 4 or 5 in the morning”.

The comments were shared in a PaleyFest panel Instagram reel, as Lange reflected on filming season three, Coven, in New Orleans.

“We had to drive ourselves,” Lange said.

She also described it as “still a bone of contention”, adding: “We would drive ourselves home at like 4 or 5 in the morning, park on some street in the French Quarter, and find our way home because they were too f***ing cheap!”

Lange made the remarks during a PaleyFest 2026 panel in New York City, seated alongside co-star Sarah Paulson. Paulson responded “oh yeah!” when Lange said the cast had to get themselves home, then laughed and covered her face as Lange called the production cheap.

The panel also included Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, Leslie Grossman and co-executive producer Lou Eyrich, according to the same write-up. The Hollywood Reporter identified Lange as 77.

The behind-the-scenes moment has landed as American Horror Story’s currently airing 13th season brings major franchise faces back for an all-star crossover.

Lange is a defining presence in the AHS universe, and is known for major film roles including Tootsie, Frances, Blue Sky and Cape Fear, as well as a long stage career and a blunt, no-nonsense public persona.

Lange is currently starring in AHS 13, her first appearance on the show since 2018’s AHS: Apocalypse, in its write-up of her comments about cars home from the American Horror Story set.

Ryan Murphy previously said a Scream Queens return was planned for the American Horror Story season 13 crossover, but scheduling meant it could not happen.
