Imagine winning the lottery not once — but TWICE! A couple from Canada have won the lottery for a second time and are blown away by the lucky win. According to a press release obtained by People on Oct.12, Angelina and Edward Lado revealed that they scored $675,000 from a $4 scratch ticket, eight years after winning their recording-breaking 2018 prize of $2.5 million.

“I thought maybe she was bluffing when she told me, I really couldn’t believe it,” Edward said in a statement. “I told her to calm down and when I come home, we will see if it is for real.”

In August, Angelina and Edward’s life-changing win came from a $4 Scratch ’N Win ticket. The game’s top “Set for Life” prize offers winners a choice between receiving $1,000 a week for 25 years or taking a one-time payout of $675,000. The couple opted for the lump sum.

When asked whether there’s a trick to winning the lottery, Edward made it clear that there’s no special formula. His advice was simple: you can’t win if you never give it a try.

“We play, but modestly, especially now, but if you don’t play, you don’t win,” Edward said. “We’ve purchased bigger tickets and not won anything significant on them and then Set for Life costs just $4 and we did.”

He added, “We will think about anything else along the way but for now we are just digesting the moment and letting it sink in. We don’t want to rush into anything, taking our time is the best option and things will fall into place as life progresses.”

Angelina and Edward Lado’s major lottery win comes just eight years after they broke a record with their 2018 lottery win. That year, the couple took home an incredible $2.5 million after purchasing a Multi-Millionaire Scratch ’N Win ticket. According to CBC, their win set a record for the largest prize ever awarded through a scratch-ticket game.

The windfall carried even greater significance given that the couple had immigrated to Canada from South Sudan just 11 years earlier. Beyond the financial security, Edward explained that the money also offered hope of reuniting their family.

“My mother, whom I have not seen since I was an infant and have no memory of, is in a refugee camp somewhere in Uganda,” he said in a news release from Atlantic Lottery in 2018, according to CBC. “I will go to find her and hopefully bring her here. It’s very hard for me to believe that is now possible.”
