Barrie Gower, who created some of TV's most terrifying monsters — Vecna for Stranger Things and the Night King for Game Of Thrones — was involved in prosthetics on a less supernatural scale for Matilda The Musical.

Gower turned Emma Thompson into brutal Miss Trunchbull. He told a Bafta panel he 'only' gave her jaw, chin, nose and earlobe pieces for the film, which is in the running for an Outstanding British Film award.

'She was completely open to the process,' he said, adding that his inspiration for her look was the poet Edith Sitwell.

The transformation took an hour and a half each day, and make-up artist Naomi Donne explained: 'The great thing about Emma is that she doesn't sweat much, so her make-up stayed on really well.'

The big screen adaptation of the West End phenomenon saw an unrecognisable side to Emma, who, in the trailer, is pictured wearing the villainous headmistress' khaki trench coat and the fierce, scraped-back hairdo the character is associated with.

A brand new take on the Tony and Olivier award-winning musical, Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical tells the story of an extraordinary girl with a vivid imagination, who dares to take a stand to change her story with miraculous results.

Stepping into the shoes of one of fiction's most beloved characters is Alisha Weir, while Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough play her parents, whose loud and selfish behaviour triggers the quiet observer in Matilda to think up cheeky acts of rebellion and revenge.

Matilda Wormwood finds solace in her inspirational teacher Miss Honey, played by James Bond star Lashana Lynch, who encourages her pupil to conjure her own fantastical tales.

The big screen adaptation of Matilda The Musical arrived in cinemas on November 25 2022 and ahead of the anticipated release, a new trailer has been unveiled.

Late last month it was reported by Richard Eden that her daughter Gaia Wise, 23, had her mother's footprint tattooed on her ribs.

'The tattoo was taken from a print that my parents did when I was born and shows my mum's big foot next to my baby foot,' the aspiring actress told The Daily Mail's Richard Eden at a red-carpet event, where she showed off the unique design.

Gaia, 23, whose father is the Oscar winner's second husband, Strictly star Greg Wise, adds: 'I do remember lying there and the tattoo artist kept on asking if I wanted to stop, but I just said, 'Carry on, I have to get this done.' It's very special to me and my mum loves it.'

This week meanwhile, Daryl McCormack revealed how he and co-star Emma prepared for the racy sex scenes in their latest film, Good Luck To You Leo Grande.

Speaking to The Independent, Daryl, 30, said he and Emma, 63, prepared for intimate scenes with the help of their director, Sophie Hyde.

He revealed they shared some intimate details about their bodies on paper in rehearsals, before slowing stripping off to 'tell stories about their bodies'.

He said it was a 'gentle, beautiful introduction for us to step into a place of vulnerability'.

'The map of the body then led to us telling stories behind each thing. Then from there, the three of us all took a layer of clothing off, one by one, and told stories about our bodies,' he said.

'Before we knew it, the three of us were naked, and it felt like we never even took our clothes off in the beginning. There was a level of comfort I’ve never experienced before,' he added.

In June last year, Daryl revealed he and Emma opted not to use an intimacy coach for the film.

The new movie follows Nancy (Emma), a widowed school teacher who hires a male escort (Daryl) for a date, hoping to experience an orgasm for the first time - with the two characters sharing very intimate moments throughout.
