DC Studios has announced new casting to its upcoming ‘true’ crime series The People v. Gorilla Grodd with Sara Gilbert (The Connors) starring alongside Skyler Gisondo and Jimmy Tatro.

The People v. Gorilla Grodd will see Gisondo reprise his Superman role as Jimmy Olsen who decides to reinvestigate the Metropolis court case of Gorilla Grodd who was accused and ultimately found guilty of killing his father. The series will be presented in a Serial-like manner from American Vandals creators Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault with Olsen examining the evidence and whether or not Grodd was framed for the crime.

Gilbert will be a “important journalist” in the series’ court case. Who that will be is being kept under wraps for the time being as it is not said if Gilbert’s character will be another Daily Planet reporter, someone from Gotham City like Vicki Vale or Summer Gleeson or beyond. There are plenty of characters DC head James Gunn can pull from with his knowledge of the mythos.

Tatro will star as Gorilla Grodd. He and Gisondo will be joined by returning Daily Planet crew Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant and Wendell Pierce as editor Perry White. The show will also feature Mary Holland (Little House on the Prairie), Eduardo Franco (Stranger Things), Dan Perrault (The Residence) and Arian Moayed (Wonder Man) in their introductions to the DCU.

Gisondo will be seen as Jimmy Olsen next summer in the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow with David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Sara Sampaio, Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Frank Grillo, María Gabriela de Faría, Milly Alcock, Aaron Pierre, Xolo Maridueña and Lars Eidinger.

In The People v. Gorilla Grodd, a superintelligent ape is convicted of murdering his father, the King of Gorilla City. In an eight-part “true” crime docuseries, the Daily Planet’s Jimmy Olsen reopens the case, investigating whether Gorilla Grodd was wrongly convicted in one of Metropolis’ most famous murder trials.
