Bishop Gorman boys basketball junior Canon Mullen, the son of UNLV football coach Dan Mullen, announced on his social media accounts over the weekend he received a basketball offer from UNR.

“After a great conversation with Coach Neal, I am blessed to receive a scholarship offer from the University of Nevada! Go pack!” Canon Mullen wrote in social media posts, referring to UNR associate head coach Craig Neal.

It’s the first Division I offer for Canon Mullen, who is listed as a 6-foot-5 and 170 pound guard/wing. Mullen was primarily a role player for Gorman last year in his first season with the Gaels. But he is expected to have a bigger role this season after a strong offseason on the club circuit.

“So proud of you,” Dan Mullen wrote in the comments on Canon’s Instagram post announcing his offer.

Current UNR coach Steve Alford announced in September that he will be retiring at the end of the 2026-27 season. The school as not announced Alford’s replacement. In 2013, when Alford left New Mexico to be the UCLA coach, Neal was named the new coach of the Lobos.
