Pokémon x Beats/First look

After some early leaks spotted by the squad at 9to5Mac and yesterday’s teaser, it’s now official – Beats and The Pokémon Company have teamed up to reveal the new special-edition Pokémon x Beats Pill speaker.

While yesterday’s brief teaser video seemed to suggest we might be getting two different models, there is actually only one Pokémon x Beats Pill featuring both Pikachu and Mimikyu.

• Pokémon x Beats Pill $150 via Target at 11 a.m. ET (Nov. 15)
• Pokémon x Beats Pill $150 via Apple Store at 11 a.m. ET (Nov. 15)

Featuring “two of the most beloved Pokémon with Beats’ signature sound,” renders of the iconic pocket monsters are featured on the front grill, while the front and back of the speaker “incorporate the unmistakable electric yellow of Pikachu and a grayscale interpretation of the mysterious Mimikyu.”

I really love the bonus charms this thing comes with too – you can see it on the sort of lanyard, wrist strap tie that attaches to the side of the speaker – there’s the iconic Poké Ball, the Beats “b” logo, and Pikachu signature lighting bolts.

This is, if it wasn’t already obvious, the same latest-generation Beats Pill speaker you have been able to scoop up on Amazon in the standard colors for well below the $149 MSRP for a while now, and one of the better speakers in the price range of you ask me. The iconic design pairs with near-perfect Apple gear integration, Find My, up to 24 hours of battery life, and lands with IP67 dust and water resistance.

The new special-edition Pokémon x Beats Pill speaker will be available starting later this week on October 15 at the same $149 MSRP as the standard models. It is, however, an Apple Store and Target exclusive here in the U.S.
