The WNBA's trans athlete debate came to the surface once again on Saturday as pro-women activists were furiously confronted at Game 1 of the WNBA Finals.

During the Golden State Valkyries' 68-64 win over the Atlanta Dream, multiple attendees wearing 'XX-XY' apparel were seen being verbally abused by other fans.

XX-XY Athletics opposes transgender athlete inclusion in women's sports and was founded by Jennifer Sey, who was in attendance at the Chase Center on Saturday.

Sey took to social media during the game to share a video showcasing some of the vitriolic abuse that the group faced while inside the arena.

In the video, one fan was seen holding her middle finger up at the camera while shouting: 'You're disgusting! You're disgusting! Kill yourself.'

Another said: 'I'm sorry you don't understand' while waving at the group as they were escorted away from their seats by arena staff.

Other fans were seen waving goodbye to the group of pro-women activists as they were being escorted away from their seats by security. The group were allowed to return shortly after.

The video continued by showing the group's conversation with the staff member, who said: 'Their complaint is you guys are antagonizing them with your shirts'.

The staff member, who appeared to be security personnel, added that there would be no punishment to the group and that they were allowed to return to their seats.

The caption to Sey's post read: 'We were scolded for antagonizing people with our shirts. But allowed to go back to our seats'.

Meanwhile, according to USA Today, Sey added: 'I'm just a lady who gets yelled at everywhere I go. They always hope I die. Because I think men can't be women.'

The shocking incident comes just one month after Sey claimed that the FBI were investigating threats to her and her employees' lives.

In an article on Daily Wire, she said: 'The physical demands of a startup are relentless. The emotional ones never end.

'And the pushback for this brand taking this stance – women's sports are for women – is worse than anything I experienced standing up for young gymnasts or during COVID, which was itself a worldwide lunatic asylum of policy,' she said.

'I now have open FBI investigations because of threats to my life and my employees' lives. Not mean direct messages, but real threats. Detailed descriptions of what they would do to me, my team, and our kids.

Pro-women's sports campaigner Jennifer Sey - who is pictured with Riley Gaines (L) and WNBA star Sophie Cunningham - shared the video onto social media on Saturday night

'Just last week, a man walked into our offices and demanded a meeting with 'Jennifer Sey!' He was dirty, unkempt, and shaking. I was sitting with three members of my staff. We all understood at the same moment that he meant us harm. Four terrified women somehow got him out of the building.'

Sey continued: 'I was terrified he would show up at my house that night while I was home alone with my daughter, with my husband out of town with our son. A private security guy I know came by as a favor.

'He sat outside for a few hours, but I felt bad and said he could go. We'd be fine. He left me bear spray that still sits in my bedside table. I slept with one eye open all weekend and one arm holding my daughter close. I am still scared he will come back and pull off whatever he planned.'

The incident also comes shortly after WNBA star Sophie Cunningham threw her support behind a group of high school girls who refused to compete in a cross country race after learning that they were facing a biological male athlete.

Footage of the incident quickly went viral, with XX-XY Athletics among those to share it on social media.

Commenting on the Instagram post by the apparel brand, which claims to 'stand up for women's sports' – WNBA superstar Cunningham wrote: 'Good work girls.'

Earlier this year, Cunningham sparked protests and a bitter WNBA culture war after claiming she wants to 'protect young girls... who shouldn't have to go against biological men.'

The shocking incident occurred at Game 1 of the WNBA Finals between the Golden State Valkyries and the Atlanta Dream at the Chase Center

There was drama elsewhere on the night as fans ripped into both teams after their players left the court moments before the national anthem performance

Meanwhile, elsewhere on the night, fans ripped into the Dream and Valkyries after their players left the court before the national anthem rendition at the WNBA Finals.

Prior to Game 1 of the series, Bay Area artist Goapele took to the floor to perform The Star-Spangled Banner for the thousands of fans gathered inside the Chase Center.

However, as she began singing the anthem, fans quickly noticed that neither of the sides were present during the performance – but they did return soon after it ended.

Footage of Goapele performing quickly began circulating on social media, as fans and analysts lamented the glaring absence of both the Dream and Valkyries.
