The deal will expand EAF’s industrial protein manufacturing platform, supporting pet food and food producers.
HAIFA, ISRAEL — Ever After Foods (EAF), a tech company focused on developing cultivated meat, announced its acquisition of Fishway, a food-tech company that develops cultivated fish biomass. By integrating Fishway’s technologies and scientific capabilities in aquatics, the deal marks an important milestone in EAF’s long-term strategy to expand its industrial protein manufacturing platform, according to the company.
With support from shareholders across food production, industrial manufacturing and biotechnology, EAF takes biological innovations and uses them to create industrial protein manufacturing. It operates a species-agnostic manufacturing platform that integrates biology, media, bioprocessing and production technologies across the cultivated meat industry to ensure efficient, industrial-scale production.
Before the acquisition, EAF and Fishway collaborated to combine Fishway’s aquatic biology and animal-free media with EAF’s manufacturing platform, resulting in a faster, more integrated pathway for industrial production. By integrating their capabilities, EAF will shorten development cycles, reduce technical barriers and accelerate cultivated meat commercialization across various animal species and product applications, like pet food.
“The future of protein will be determined not by who develops the next breakthrough, but by who can bring breakthrough technologies together into scalable industrial production,” said Eyal Rosenthal, chief executive officer of EAF. “Fishway is an important addition to our broader strategy of building the industrial infrastructure required for resilient, scalable and secure protein production. We are committed to selectively integrating complementary biology, media and manufacturing technologies while remaining an open manufacturing platform serving companies across the cultivated protein ecosystem.”
The deal is expected to expand EAF’s ability to support pet food, food and ingredient companies, providing them with an integrated development and manufacturing platform. One of the platform’s initial programs will focus on cultivated protein ingredients for premium pet food formulas.
“The cultivated protein space has faced an assortment of challenges over the last few years, but the promise of quality protein production at scale has not dimmed. The industry is entering a new phase, moving from isolated technology development to industrial integration and commercialization,” said Annelies Bogaerts, CEO of Fishway. “After an initial technology collaboration demonstrating the power of our complementary solutions, it was clear that the acquisition would help us drive a new era of safe, sustainable protein manufacturing. We look forward to supporting EAF’s industrial platform.”
As part of the acquisition, the Fishway team will become part of EAF’s broader organization. Belgium, Fishway’s base, will continue to serve as an important center for the company’s aquatic biology and media development, enhancing EAF’s scientific and operational footprint in Europe.
Alongside the acquisition, EAF shared it has secured a $2 million investment to support the commercialization and expansion of its platform.
